Derrick Shannon : Creative Director ⦁ Battery Arranger

Derrick Shannon is a percussion specialist originally from the Chicago-land area. He holds the Director of Percussive Arts position at Plainfield Community Schools who were the 2018 WGI PSA Champions in his first year with the program. He started Percussive Soundscapes which is a company who offers a variety of services to the marching arts community including custom arrangements for band and winter percussion ensembles. He taught at Ball State University, judges during the weekends, consults with numerous groups across the country and he is also currently the President-Elect of the Indiana Percussion Association.

Derrick marched seven summers of drum corps with groups such as the Phantom Regiment and Cavaliers, both in the battery and front ensemble. Afterwards, he became the Percussion Caption Head for the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps and he is currently the Percussion Coordinator and Battery Arranger for the Madison Scouts. Derrick is also a Creative Director for 317 Performing Arts which supports the WGI Independent group named Veritas. He received his Bachelors in Music Education at the VanderCook College of Music and his Master’s in Music Technology at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. Derrick proudly endorses Innovative Percussion, Pearl/Adams, Remo, and Etymotic. He currently resides in Plainfield, Indiana with his wife Kayla, daughter Miyah and dog Max.

Chris Murphree : Creative Director ⦁ Front Ensemble Arranger

Chris is currently a freelancing percussion specialist in Indiana, primarily working with Brownsburg and Plainfield High School. He serves as an arranger, designer, and teacher for both groups throughout the school year. He received his Master’s degree from Indiana University, and his Bachelor’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University, where he also served as an Adjunct Professor of Percussion. During his time at IU he served as the associate instructor for the Marching Hundred Drumline. His responsibilities included teaching and writing for the drumline throughout the fall season. His responsibilities at MTSU included teaching private lessons, working with the MTSU drumline, and teaching percussion ensemble.

Chris’ marching career includes Spirit of Atlanta, The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, and Music City Mystique. His past drum corps teaching experience includes Troopers, Phantom Regiment, Blue Knights, and most recently the Madison Scouts where he serves as front ensemble arranger and coordinator. Chris is very excited to embark on his new journey as a Creative Director for 317 Performing Arts written for several groups in the activity, including the likes of Orange County Independent and Music City Drum and Bugle Corps. He has written for and consulted with several high schools and universities throughout the Midwest. He is proud to be endorsed by Innovative Percussion Inc. Anne Kane : Administrative Director

Anne is from Dayton, Ohio, where her percussion career began at Kettering Fairmont High School. During her four years of indoor drum line and marching band, she played vibraphone and marimba. After graduating in 2015, she performed with a series of groups including Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps, Mandarins Drum and Bugle Corps, Tates Creek Indoor Ensemble, and Legacy Indoor Percussion. Anne ended her marching career with Legacy World in 2018.

Anne is currently pursuing a degree in Biblical Studies at Moody Bible Institute. She currently resides in Indianapolis, Indiana, and works full time as a coffee director at Gavel Curated Café. Anne is very excited to join the team as administrative director for the 2019 season.

Alan Barone : Visual Designer

Alan is currently the Marching Percussion Director and Assistant Marching Band Director at Victor J Andrew HS in Tinley Park, IL.  Under his direction the Victor J Andrew HS Percussion Ensemble has been recognized as one of the premier ensembles in both WGI Scholastic A and Open Classes.

The Victor J Andrew HS Percussion Ensemble affectionately known as “Andrew Percussion” has been a consistent WGI Finalist and Medalist.  The Ensemble was Scholastic A Class Champion in both 2014, 2016, and silver medalist in 2011.  In Open Class, Victor J Andrew HS was the silver medalist in both 2012, 2013, and the bronze medalist in 2017.

In addition to his percussion duties at Victor J Andrew HS, Alan also serves as a drill writer and show designer for several groups across the country.  Alan live in Lockport, IL with his wife Amy and their two children, Mia and Mason.

Andrew Fortuna : Veritas Director ⦁ Battery Coordinator

Andrew has been involved in the world of marching percussion for the better part of two decades. He started his drum corps career in 2004 with the Kingston Grenadiers (2004-2005), Rochester Crusaders (2006-2009), and the Boston Crusaders (2010-2011). His indoor marching career includes Onondaga Community College (2010) and United Percussion (2012).

Andrew began teaching at The Plainfield Community School Corporation in the fall of 2017 as the in school percussion specialist. He is the battery coordinator year round and also serves as a designer for their winter programs. Past corps teaching experience includes The Empire Statesmen, The White Sabers Drum and Bugle Corps, Boston Crusaders, Phantom Regiment, and most recently the Madison Scouts where he will serve as Battery Coordinator for the 2019 season!

Andrew Currently resides in Indianapolis, IN with his girlfriend Jamie Tucker and dog Penny.


Jared Staples : Veritas Director ⦁ Front Ensemble Coordinator

Jared is a music educator currently residing in the Indianapolis area. After a brief hiatus from the activity, he is ecstatic to return to the marching arts as a director and front ensemble coordinator for Veritas’ inaugural season! He had the distinct privilege of marching with Music City Mystique in 2013 under the tutelage of Meagan Nelson, Rob Pastor, and Angelo Outlaw. While attending Middle Tennessee State University, Jared studied under many percussive greats including Lalo Davila, Julie Davila, Matt Jordan, and many more. His teaching experience includes the likes of Clarksville Audio Theater (Audio Theater) 2014, Legacy Indoor Percussion from 2016-2017, Fishers High School as an instructor/director from 2014-2017, and most recently Plainfield High School where he serves as an instructor and designer for their winter programs. Jared will also serve as a front ensemble technician for the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps this up coming season!

Tony Cook : Battery Coordinator

Tony began his marching career at Franklin Central high school where he played snare for four years. He then went on to study music education and music composition at Ball State University. Along with school work, he was a part of the Ball State Drumline, performed with the Wind Ensemble, and numerous percussion ensembles. While studying at Ball State, Tony taught at several schools around Indiana, including Franklin Community, Muncie Central, Franklin Central, Avon, and Fishers. In between his time studying and teaching, Tony was also a member of the Legacy snare line from the inaugural year in 2013 to his age out in 2017. He is a member of the Indianapolis Colts drumline, and the Indiana Pacers drumline High Octane, and performs with them at the Indy 500 and Brickyard 400. Currently, Tony is teaching at Fishers where he serves as battery coordinator and assistant percussion director, teaching grades 6-12.


Evan Fyffe : Front Ensemble Coordinator

Evan studied percussion at Ball State University under Dr. Erwin Mueller and Braham Dembar, current principal percussionist for the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. While studying percussion at Ball State, Evan was a member of the Legacy Indoor Percussion Ensemble. He also currently performs with the Muncie Symphony Orchestra, and has also performed with the Anderson Symphony Orchestra.

Evan began working at Greenfield-Central Schools in 2012 as one of the main percussion instructors. Throughout his years with the program, Evan’s private lessons studio has grown to over 30 students, ranging from 6th to 12th grades. His main responsibility for extracurricular percussion studies includes running the front ensemble for the marching band and indoor percussion ensemble.

Throughout Evan’s entire life, he has been blessed with a variety of percussion experiences and opportunities. From watching his father’s percussion groups compete throughout his early childhood, to performing in more concert percussion settings in high school and college, performing in the battery ensemble with Legacy Indoor, and teaching front ensemble primarily, the vast list of past experiences has developed Evan into a more versatile percussion educator.

Andrew McAfee : Ensemble Specialist ⦁ Snare Staff

Andrew McAfee is an active percussionist, composer, and educator. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Percussion Performance from California State University Long Beach as well as a Master's Degree in Percussion from Indiana University.

His performance career started when he joined the Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets as a snare drummer in 2003. During his membership, the corps won the Best Percussion Caption Award twice and the DCI Open Class World Championship in 2008. The following year, he had the honor of performing with the Pulse Percussion Ensemble in the 2009 WGI World Class Finals.

Andrew is an arranger and consultant for several marching band programs across the country. Locally he works as a freelance instructor and jazz vibraphonist in the Indianapolis area. His primary programs include Mooresville, Plainfield, and Brownsburg High School where he serves as an arranger, designer, and instructor. He will also be an ensemble specialist for the Madison Scouts for the upcoming 2019 season!


Jamie Tucker : Visual Designer ⦁ Choreographer

Jamie has been involved in the marching arts since she was ten years old. Beginning her color guard career with Academy Independent A Winter Guard in 2003, and then Ubiquity Winter Guard in 2004, she went on to march in her high school band. Following high school, Jamie performed with O2 Winter Guard 2010 and 2011, and then went on to perform with ONYX 2012-2015.

After ONYX’s 2015 season, Jamie was asked to be on staff and has been teaching there since. Jamie has also worked with Music City Drum and Bugle Corps, 2011-2013, and then Boston Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps, 2014-2016. Jamie choreographed and taught Forest Park High School from 2012-2017, and continues to teach in the Indianapolis area. Currently Jamie is working with Ben Davis Color Guard, and is the visual choreographer for Plainfield High School Marching Band.

This winter season Jamie is working with 317 Performing Arts, Plainfield High School Percussion, Ben Davis Winter Guard, and ONYX Winter Guard.

 Originally from Evansville, IN, Jamie and her boyfriend now reside in Indianapolis, IN. Outside of the marching arts, they love to play with their puppy, Penny, be outdoors, listen to live music, and finding new places to eat. Jamie graduated from the University of Southern Indiana with a degree in Marketing; and currently works at Northwestern Mutual.
