Tori Rito : Cymbal Staff
Tori began her marching career playing cymbals and bass drum at Martinsville High School in Martinsville, Indiana. She started her independent cymbal career by marching one season with Pioneer Indoor Percussion in 2012. She then went on to be one of the members in Legacy Indoor’s inaugural season and marched there for the next four years (2013-2016) on cymbals, until she aged out in 2016. She also spent four years (2011-2014) playing bass drum in the Pride of Mid-America Marching Band at Ball State University while marching cymbals in the WGI season. Tori has worked with several high school groups as well over the past several years, including the Richmond High School Winter Percussion Ensemble, Decatur Central High School Percussion Ensemble, and Lawrence Township Winter Percussion. Tori will be returning as staff for the 2019 season and is excited to continue working with the program that’s been her second home for the past 6 years!
Alex Queen : Cymbal Staff
Alex is a current student at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, studying Computer Science. There, he is a member of the Marching Hundred cymbal line.
For WGI, he has marched with Legacy Indoor Percussion in 2015 and 2016. Afterwards, he joined Music City Mystique's cymbal line in 2017 and 2018, marching "Disciples" and winning gold with "The Hand of Man". Alex also spent the summer of 2015 as a member of the Legends Drum and Bugle Corps cymbal line.
In the past, Alex has taught Plainfield and Center Grove High Schools, as well as spent the 2018 DCI season as an instructor with the cymbal line at the Oregon Crusaders.
He is beyond excited to spend his first winter with 317!
Deondre Smiles : Cymbal Staff
Deondre has been involved in the marching arts since 2007 as a performer, instructor and designer. Deondre has performed with ensembles such as Pioneer, Minnesota Brass and River City Rhythm. His teaching experience includes ensembles across the Midwest and South, including Chops Drum and Bugle Corps, Tates Creek Indoor and Legacy Open. Deondre currently lives in Columbus, Ohio, where he is working towards his Ph.D. in Geography.
James Childers : Cymbal Staff
James is a percussion educator, consultant, and performer currently living in the Chicagoland area. He has served as a member on the board of directors for the Guardians Drum and Bugle Corps since 2015. In 2017 he joined Legacy Performing Arts and currently works with 317 Performing Arts. Outside of the marching arts and concert halls, James is a drumset artist performing with bands around the country. In the past, James has served as director for the Gulf Coast chapter of the Small Drum Corps Association. His additional nonprofit teaching experience includes the likes of Pioneer, Southwind, and Nexus Percussion. He has worked with numerous high school and middle school programs throughout the United States, including Bands of America participants Greendale and Lincoln-Way East high schools.
